Think Before You Throw

Convenience and comfort have become our prime priorities in a stressful city lifestyle. The demand for latest goods and modern services has been on a constant rise over the past decade. On the other hand, we have been repeatedly failing to ask ourselves the question “Is that really necessary?”  Earlier this year, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOOA) in the US officially announced 2016 to be the hottest year on record globally. No matter how much we blame each other for a nearing apocalypse; it’s only our collective actions that could help us to make Earth a more sustainable and happier place to live.

What we don’t find fast or fancy enough anymore is replaced the very moment we find its ‘update’. But where do these outdated articles go?

The answer is a landfill.

Yes, we are injecting toxic garbage inside our own Mother’s womb every single day. What doesn’t end up there is either burnt or even worse, reaches the ocean; causing a horrifying amount of air and water pollution respectively. How do we control this?

For starters, by not falling for the eye-candy marketing of latest phones every few months. E-waste is being our nastiest enemy to tackle worldwide right now as you read this. Secondly, segregating the dry and wet waste right from your home makes it easier for scrap dealers to recycle the plastic and metal objects. Further, by reusing all that we don’t require for its original purpose. For example, stitching a sling bag out of an old pair of jeans. That’s called up-cycling. Or at least, donating it to the needy rather than letting it rot in an untouched corner of your closet. Basically, our planet’s asking us to be more of a creative (and generous) human and less of a dumb sheep. We need to reduce our consumption and we need to start right away. So, celebrate every day as the World Environment Day and always Think Before You Throw.
